Friends Connect Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps teenagers with special needs build confidence, new friendships and an improved sense of belonging through free social activities like dance lessons, art, gardening, cooking, field days, ice skating, games and more. Their participants with special needs are 12 to 21 years old and typically have developmental, physical, injury or illness-induced challenges such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, Dyslexia, Cystic Fibrosis, hearing or vision impairment, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injuries and cancer.
Founded by Sophia Ziajski, the non-profit organization creates unforgettable experiences for special needs participants, their families and their volunteer buddies. We hear stories after almost every event about how a participant has built confidence to try new things, is more open to forming friendships and how their parents see new opportunities for their children that they did not previously consider possible. Sophia's volunteers often tell us that they maintain their friendships both within and outside of their events, that they volunteer with other organizations serving the special needs community and that they learn to see people with special needs as friends first.
Synchesis started as an Instagram account dedicated to sharing narratives and resources about race and identity. With the account, they follow a weekly topic format and post community spotlight interviews, video content, and educational resources. Over time, they began covering topics like mental health and climate change, prompting the expansion of their blog. Posted on their website, the blog features writers (primarily students) with an interest in/passion for social justice/social good.
Sponsored by Synchesis, Friends Connect Foundation and Diskko are releasing a limited edition collaboration t-shirt to highlight the mission of Sophia's non-profit organization.
